A very bright first edition copy of this anthology from Andrew Lang's immensely popular collection of sweet and moralistic fairy tales for children. Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding. Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed.

This book weighs 0.75 KG when packed. Lang was a pioneer in his field as he used such a wide variety of sources. Many of these tales made their first appearance in the English language due to Lang's translation. Although Lang made most of the selections himself for the works, his wife and other translators did a large portion of the translating and retelling of the stories. The first edition of this work.

With prior owner's inscription to the half-title,'Cecil Rice 1904'. With a coloured frontispiece and seven further coloured plates.

In addition to this there are twenty-five monochrome full page plates. A very bright and well preserved copy of this popular children's anthology. The Violet Fairy Book contains translations of tales from many countries including Japan, Serbia, Lithuania, Africa, Portugal and Russia. There are thirty-five tales total to this work, including'Schippeitaro','The Lute Player','A Tale of the Tontlawald','The Envious Neighbour','The Prince who Wanted to See the World' and'Mogarzea and his Son'.

In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding with gilt stamping to the board and spine. Externally, the cloth is extremely bright. Light rubbing to the head and tail of spine in addition to the joints. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Pages are bright and clean. Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear. Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones. Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy. Some more serious faults as will.

Be described in the condition report under'condition. Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair.

As with good only above but with other faults. Leaving a compromised copy even after repair. Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
