I have here for sale a superbly illustrated 3 volume set entitled THE INDIAN TRIBES OF NORTH AMERICA with Biographical Sketches and Anecdotes of the Principal Chiefs by Thomas L McKenney and James Hall. There are 120 colour lithographs and two fold out colour maps across the three volumes. Published by John Grant, Edinburgh. Vol I was printed in 1933 and Vols II and III in 1934. Each volume is lavishly illustrated with colour plates of the chiefs, women, warriors, and others who acted as interpreters from all the different tribes. The books show the Indian Nation before its destruction by the onward march of the White Man. This is the frankly beautiful 1933/4 edition.

There is a fold-out colour map of the United States showing the Indian Reservations 1906, and also one of The Indian Tribes of the United States in 1833, at the rear of Vol III. Vol I - 48 plates. Vol II - 49 plates (missing Buffalo Hunt). Vol III - 23 plates and two maps. Navy blue hardboards with a blind embossed image to the front boards and gilt lettering to the spine.

Some minor wear to hinges and edges but really otherwise in very good condition. Pages are rough cut and as this is an ex-library book it has a library sticker to each front endpaper and small discreet library stamps to the reverse of each plate and the first and last pages. Some foxing to the endpapers. A couple of tears to the maps and one small piece has been detached and repaired.

Vol I - 442 pages, Vol II - 458 pages and Vol III - 355 pages. We wrap and post the parcels on Monday and Tuesday - therefore if you pay before midday on Tuesday we will get it in the postal sacks on Tuesday night, and if it is after that time then. It will go into the postal service on the following Monday.
