The book also retains the following first edition points: signature marks ie: "B" at the foot of the first page of text and "C" at the foot of p. 17; the original form missing punctuation gap on page 53, line 5; the Chapman and Hall caption at the base of the illustration opposite page 150; and the 2 pages of ads in the rear. The book has been rebound with new acid-free saddles at the end gutters and new book cloth at the spine over which the original spine remnants have been reapplied.
Boards have light wear (please see pics,) endpapers have an impression from a removed bookplate, protective tissues have offset foxing. Binding is very tight and square, text and 4 hand-colored and 4 black-and-white plates are very clean, bright and crisp. 166 pages plus 2 pages of ads; measures approximately 6.5 x 4.5-inches.
