Contemporary paper covered boards with leather spine and corners, small octavo (7 3/8 x 4 ¾ inches), x, 11-376 pages, 7 copperplate engravings (4 folding, 3 of which are lacking the folded section). The book is dedicated to King George II.

Signed on the front endpaper: Saul Lightfoot, Stamford. History of, and attack on, the Inquisition. As often for such works, it is a thinly-veiled attack on the Catholic Church more broadly. Leather is rubbed, some wear at spine ends; moderate wear at board edges and corners; front spine joint is split but the board is firmly attached. Ownership inscriptions on front free endpaper and top of title page.

The title page is browned and lightly soiled. The test is complete and intact with a few pages with some marginal foxing. The 3 single page plates are intact with some marginal foxing. The frontis folding plate is complete but in poor shape with tape repairs, marginal chips, creases, short tears and soil.
