Shikar Being Tales Told By A Sportsman In India. The uncommon first edition of this highly illustrated work on hunting in India. This book weighs 0.75 KG when packed. The first edition of the work. Collated complete with twenty four monochrome plates.

Charles Hugh Stockley was an officer in the British army and a renowned big game hunter and photographer. He wrote profusely on the subject, writing many books detailing his hunts, particularly across India. This particular work details Stockley's time hunting markhor, gooral, tahr, sambur, tsine, ibex, stag, bear, burhel and other game in northern India, with a chapter on hunting kudu in Somaliland in Africa. In the publisher's green cloth binding. Externally smart with slight shelf wear to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine.

Fading to the extremities of the boards and to the spine. Areas of damp staining to the rear board.

Contemporary ink signature to front paste down. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spotting heavier to the first and last few pages and marginal age toning. Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear. Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones.

Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy. Some more serious faults as will. Be described in the condition report under'condition.

Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair. As with good only above but with other faults.

Leaving a compromised copy even after repair. Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete. We only sell books in this condition where their rarity or value makes them. Major defects will be described. Please ask for details and conditions.

Please note we cannot accept USD cheques.
