HERE IS WHAT YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR, AND DREAMING OF!! One of the "Holy Grails" of vintage bicycles!! Yes the pictures are real, it's that good! For sale: My ALMOST all ORIGINAL 1969 Schwinn Lemon Peeler Krate Sting-Ray Fastback.
I got this for my 11th birthday in 1969. It was (and still is) my pride and joy. It is in EXCELLENT condition for its age. A few nicks and dings mainly by the rear chain as you'd expect. 5 speed derailleur works fine. Bearings all good, but they all (front wheel, rear wheel, pedal crank) need new grease of course! The best thing about my bike vs others.... You can show off this bike as is, or you can go all out and detail it to the hilt, you can't go wrong either way. Don't wait to long, I might change my mind and have it buried with me. I spent the last 24 hours staring at it.
All original parts to the bicycle EXCEPT for: The rear tire was replaced with an original Schwinn Krate replacement gripper slick tire. The front white brake cable was replaced.
Maybe a couple of small nuts have been replaced. EVERY OTHER PART IS ORIGINAL!!All original paint and chrome, except the kick stand was touched up perfectly. The 1969 Lemon Peeler was extra special. It had the yellow "glitter" hand grips (1st edition bikes only).
The 69's were the only edition with the rare, cool "side turned shift knob", instead of the goofy ball that just sticks up. This is how a shift lever should look. I'm biased, but I think this was absolutely the coolest bike ever made. If you desire, I ran out of pics to post.
I will list with the worse case scenarios for now (fixed price). The seat has one small scuff near front (pictured) and the black stripe is showing signs of wear. The handlebars and sissy bar have small scuffs in the chrome at the top edges (no surprise). Front tire is original and is fairly worn.Brake and shift cables are not very white anymore, front brake cable replaced. Rear brake pads original and fairly worn. Chrome is getting thinnish on inside sides of sissy bar.
Don't use abrasives, just use aluminum foil ball with a little water to polish. Spokes need tightening and wheels should probably be "re-trued" at same time. Rear reflector missing - Gulco 12A 3.25 in (you can find this).
All bearings good but need new grease (both wheels and pedal crank). Small wear spot from cable, minor paint dings, a couple spots touched up with Schwinn touch up paint when I was a kid. If you're a stickler for detail, I do have the original cable routing clamp that goes around the main top frame tube, but it is not pictured, I didn't want to risk scratching the bike putting it on. What makes the 1969 Schwinn Lemon Peeler special. Chopper style smaller front 16 wheel.
Rear shock absorbers on chrome "sissy bar". Front shock absorbing spring suspension. Metal flake color keyed banana seat with inlayed stripe. Glitter flake color keyed front handgrips (1st edition only).
5 speed shifting with side turned gear shift lever (69's only). Chrome Mag spoke main crank sprocket.
Coolest "head turning" bike ever made. You can stop drooling now! You might sit down yourself too. I might pass out when it leaves. The item "1969 Schwinn Lemon Peeler Krate Stingray 1st Edition Original Owner AWESOME" is in sale since Tuesday, May 25, 2021.
