A short book on Serbian uprising against Ottoman rule in 19th century, written by famous German historian Leopold von Ranke. The material for the book was supplied by Vuk Karadzic, Serbian historian and language reformer who had himself been a witness of the scenes he related during the First Serbian Uprising in 1804.

This was afterward expanded into Serbien und die Turkei im 19 Jahrhundert (1879). Extremely rare first edition, no other copy can be found for online sale. Please note that the map which is originally included is missing. Dimensions: 18,5 x 11 cm.

The binding is showing severe signs of wear with loose hinges, stained covers, and damaged extreme joints. Foxing and some mold stains on the pages.

Few of the leaves are detached from the text block. However, text clarity is fully preserved which makes this book a fine reading copy.
