Louisa May Alcott was born in Germanstown, PA. But spent most of her life in Massachusetts. In Massachusetts, at her home in Concord, Louisa wrote the present volume. She was mainly educated by her father, philosopher and writer, Amos Bronson Alcott. She began writing to help support her family. Louisa grew up in the company of family friends, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Theodore Parker and Henry David Thoreau. Little Woman was one of the most popular juvenile books ever published.
