He was an avid fan of fantasy fiction and contributed articles to early fanzines. Koenig was also a friend of H. Lovecraft and a member of his informal literary circle, the Kalem Club.
He collaborated with August Derleth to publish Lovecraft's work and privately printed some of Lovecraft's writings during his lifetime. Koenig played a role in promoting the works of British author William Hope Hodgson in the United States. His efforts included circulating Hodgson's books and writing an introduction for a reprint of four Hodgson novels by Arkham House in 1946. Octavo, i, 341 pages, publisher's original dust jacket.
