Calais, VT: Z Press, 1975. 12 black-and-white printed postcards, housed in original printed paper envelope. 6 1/2 x 4 3/4. Limited edition of New York School writer and artist Joe Brainard's 1975 postcard project.

Postcards were a favored form of correspondence among the second generation of New York School poets, printed en masse as invites to parties and to advertise readings. An assemblage artist with a proclivity for kitsch and the ephemera of daily life, Brainard was particularly drawn to the mode of communication, and sent numerous postcards to friends and acquaintances throughout the 1960s (he even considered starting a postcard company). Published by his partner and collaborator Kenward Elmslie's Z Press, this set is composed of twelve postcards illustrated with black-and-white ink drawings and collages by Brainard. Issued as Z Press's Series 1.

Cards fine, light wear and soiling to envelope.
