Carroll Whittemore was one of the first AAs in the Boston area, and was a noted church designer, stained glass artist, and author of books on Christian symbols and iconography. Estaver and the other pastors funded Carroll's Christian book and supply store, "Whittemore's" of Needham, Massachusetts (now defunct with his death). Estaver, incidentally, was an advocate of the "Oxford Groups, " (later known as "Moral Rearmament"), whose "Six Steps" of Christian living were later expanded into AA's famous Twelve Steps.Only 4,650 copies were printed of this highly desirable first printing, rarely found three-quarters of a century later in this condition. In 2011, Time magazine placed the book on its list of the 100 best and most influential books written in English since 1923, the beginning of the magazine. In 2012, the Library of Congress designated it as one of 88 Books that Shaped America. The item "Alcoholics Anonymous 1st edition, 1st printing" is in sale since Monday, August 27, 2018.
