Signed 44 page manuscript of BEFORE THE PLAY. Typewriter ribbon copy of Before The Play, complete in 44 single sided pages, of which there are hand corrections by author Stephen King on half a dozen or so pages. An excised prologue/4 page never before published afterword to his novel The Shining. The prologue has been published twice, in a special King issue by Schiff & oddly tv guide. The never before published four page afterword[News reports of the destruction/murders at the Overlook hotel].

Includes the original signed agreement between Kirby/King and Schiff for publication in Whispers Magazine[its original appearance in print]. The piece is written in a play format, which was King's original intention for the Shining. Please note that this listing is for the manuscript and NOT the rights to reprint this piece.

There are 5 scenes that make up Before The Play. Scene 1 chronicles the construction of the Overlook Hotel and the death of the owners son. Scene 2 depicts the nightmares experienced by Lottie Pillsbury during her honeymoon at the Overlook. Scene 3 describes the Grand Masquerade Ball and the death of the lover of Horace Derwent.

Scene 4 explains the accident when Jack Torrance had his arm broken by his drunk father. Scene 5 recounts the mob hit in the presidential room in gory detail. A unique piece for the serious Stephen King collector. This is the original manuscript, NOT A PHOTOCOPY!
