Also the first complete English-language edition. Contains 19 of the 20 plates called for on the title page of the first volume; probably missing from the second volumes as there are only nine plates including frontispiece. Marbled paper worn along edges, rubbed, as is spine gilt, and corners a trifle bumped. Some light foxing (heavier to plates), reading smudges, small corner creases, and small stains in text. Hinge of second volume strengthened. The epic 19th Century novel, hurriedly translated into English not long after its initial French serialization. Quickly Dumas became recognized as one of France's greatest novelists, as he is to this day.
