1669 PURITAN Saints Everlasting Rest Richard Baxter Bible Devotional on HEAVEN
Saints Everlasting Rest Richard Baxter Bible Devotional on HEAVEN. Lay siege to your sins, and starve them out by keeping away the food and fuel which is their maintenance and life. Richard Baxter's The Saints' Everlasting Rest has long been recognized as one of the great classics of Christian devotion, and it is by this book that he is best known. This important text was written during a bout of extreme suffering from a debilitating illness, perhaps the inspiration for the work. In this work, Baxter identifies four different religious parties that would emerge Moderate Presbyterians, Independents, Episcopals, and Erastians. Baxter wrote this book for his own personal enjoyment at a point when he was unemployed. Lowndes mentions this book, and all editions, to include the incredible frontispiece. The saints everlasting rest: or, a treatise of the blessed state of the saints in their enjoyment of God in glory : Wherein is shewed its excellency and certainty ; the misery of those that lose it ; the way to attain it, and assurance of it ; and how to live in the continual delightfull foretastes of it, by the help of meditation. Written by the author for his own use, in the time of his languishing, when God took him off from all publick imployment ; and afterwards preached in his weekly lecture. By Richard Baxter teacher of the church of Kederminster in Worcestershire. Collation: Complete with all pages. References: Wing B 1390; Lowndes B 132.
