Ed ENGLISH Physics Isaac NEWTON Illustrated Optics by Rohault & Clarke. Jacques Rohault was an important French philosopher during the 17.
Century, particularly in the field of Cartesian philosophy. His Treaty on Physics became the standard physics textbook for most of the 1600s as it helped differentiate the differences in physics and metaphysics. It also covered studies on gravity and other references to Newtonian theories. This extremely rare and valuable English edition is important not only for its original studies by Rohault, but because of its commentary on Isaac Newton in the extensive footnotes. Samuel Clarke wrote copious notes which exposed many of the beliefs in Cartesianism. Clarke initially translated Rohaults French edition into Latin but then translated it further into English in 1723.Rohault's system of natural philosophy : illustrated with Dr. Samuel Clarke's notes taken mostly out of Sir Isaac Newton's philosophy. Done into English by John Clarke.
