First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding. Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed.

This book weighs 0.75 KG when packed. The first edition, third impression of'A Christmas Carol' with'Stave One' on first page of text, and uncorrected text. With the red and blue title page. A Christmas Carol' is a much-loved novella by Charles Dickens, which recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge.

Some scholars regard it to be a Christian allegory. It captures the zeitgeist of the mid-Victorian revival of the Christmas holiday.

The Chimes' was the second of Dickens' Christmas Books. There were five novellas total in this series, all with strong social and moral messages that were published during the 1840s. Bound without half-title and advert leaf at rear. A large Dickens Centenary testimonial stamp pasted to Contents leaf verso of'A Christmas Carol'.

Hand-coloured frontispiece to'A Christmas Carol' and three coloured plates. Thirteen illustrations to'The Chimes: A Goblin Story'. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown,'Samuel Hanson'.

Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, A W R Chearles, Hatherop Rectory Glos. A very smartly bound copy of two of Charles Dickens' important Christmas Book novellas. In a half calf binding, with cloth covered boards. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the joints an extremities.

Minor fading to the spine. Small split to the head of joint. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown, Samuel Hanson. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, A W R Chearles. Dickens Centenary testimonial stamp to the contents leaf verso. Scattered spots to the first and last few pages. Otherwise, just the odd spot. Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear. Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones. Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy. Some more serious faults as will. Be described in the condition report under'condition. Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair.

As with good only above but with other faults. Leaving a compromised copy even after repair. Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete. We only sell books in this condition where their rarity or value makes them. Major defects will be described.
