This is the FIRST edition and 1st printing - published by Jonathan Cape in 1956. Hardback, bound in the original black cloth with silver title to spine and silver diamond motif to front board. Comes with a dust wrapper from a slightly later edition. Dr No is advertised on the rear flap of the D/W, so it must be from 1958 or later. The dust jacket is only lightly scuffed with a small patch of staining on the back and some foxing on the inside.

The DJ is currently protected by a sheet of white paper on the inside and cellophane on the outside. The cloth binding is lightly bumped at corners and at head and tail of spine. Light surface marks to the front board. Moderate foxing and staining to endpapers and prelims. The damp stain that can be seen on the title page gets progressively smaller and fainter until it disappears about two thirds of the way through the book.
