Publisher's black and gilt stamped brown cloth with dark brown spine. Covers edgeworn with some corner creasing, smudging, and soiling. First gathering (including map) disbound. Map cleanly torn along part of center fold, with wage map at back showing a puncture at center.

Pages toned as expected with occasional foxing, but unmarked. Binding after the first gathering is sound. Jones, who at time of publication served as US Consul in Newcastle, was formerly a soldier and later served briefly in Parliament, representing Carmarthan Boroughs. His guide, revised a year later, provides a wealth of information for potential emigrants to 35 American states.
