Limited edition of New York School writer and artist Joe Brainard's 1975 postcard project. Postcards were a favored form of correspondence among the second generation of New York School poets, printed en masse as invites to parties and to advertise readings. An assemblage artist with a proclivity for kitsch and the ephemera of daily life, Brainard was particularly drawn to the mode of communication, and sent numerous postcards to friends and acquaintances throughout the 1960s (he even considered starting a postcard company). Published by his partner and collaborator Kenward Elmslie's Z Press, this set is composed of twelve postcards illustrated with black-and-white ink drawings and collages by Brainard. Issued as Z Press's Series 1. Cards fine, light wear to envelope. Born in Salem, Arkansas and raised in Tulsa, artist, poet, and theater set designer Joe Brainard moved to New York City at age 19.

There, he joined the community of New York School poets and painters who would later become his artistic collaborators, including. One of Brainard's most frequent collaborators was his longtime partner, the writer and publisher of this Post Card Series, Kenward Elmslie.
