Rare Occult Book 1882 Isis Unveiled Vol I Science Helena Blavatsky Theosophical

  

This is an incredible and very rare first publishing of Isis Unveiled Vol I- Science written by famous Russian Occultist Helena Blavatsky. 628 pages not including Before the Veil chapter in the front numbered VI- XIV. Pages XIII- XXIV are starting to pull free from binding but intact and have some dog earring. Multiple pencil notations through out this chapter.

Brown boards with gilded embossing. Shelf wear and discoloration on cover and spine. Split in top of spine as photographed. Pages slightly tanned with age, small edge tear on pages 27-32. Some minor spotting on some pages. Other pencil notations through out book. Water damage on photo and title page with slight edge water discoloration on bottom right corner of pages continuing through out book noticeable under very close inspection. Split between front cover board and dust page which has not effected the binding.

Some wear to back dust page. Previous owner's notations on inside dust pages at front and back of book. Book measures almost 9 x 6 x 2 inches. Book is in fair shape. Blavatsky was a controversial figure during her lifetime, championed by supporters as an enlightened guru and derided as a fraudulent charlatan and plagiarist by critics.

Her theosophical doctrines influenced the spread of Hindu and Buddhist ideas in the West as well as the development of Western esoteric currents like Ariosophy, Anthroposophy, and the New Age Movement. She is best known however as the Russian occultist, philosopher, and author who co-founded the Theosophical Society in 1875.

She gained an international following as the leading theoretician of Theosophy, the esoteric religion that the society promoted.
